Indonesian Hip & Knee Society (IHKS) was formed based on an idea voiced during the 12th Indonesian Orthopaedic Association (IOA) annual meeting at Makasar in 2000. At the time, several senior members of IOA such as Dr. Mulyono Soedirman, SpB. SpOT., Prof. Dr. Chehab R.H., SpB. SpOT, DR. Dr. Achmad Sjarwani, SpB. SpOT., Dr. Nicolaas C. Budhiparama, SpOT. and other colleagues suggested that IOA should have a subspecialty society in the Hip and Knee. This new society would be a subsidiary of IOA rather than a totally separate entity.
During 15th National Congress 2006 in Bali, Dr. Nicolaas C. Budhiparama, SpOT initiated another meeting with Prof. Dr. Chehab R.H., SpB, SpOT., Dr. Andre Pontoh SpOT and 17 other Orthopaedics to further discuss the forming of the hip and knee society.
